Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, is one of the best places in the world to see a wild Bengal tiger. All zones are open from 1 October to 30 June; core zones 1–5 close for the monsoon. The official safari fee from 1 April 2026 is about ₹3,025 per foreign guest in a gypsy. For the best chance of a sighting, plan 3–4 safaris in different zones.
Season 1 October 2026 – 30 June 2027. Core zones 1–5 close for the monsoon from 1 July. Zones 1–5 close on Wednesdays and zones 6–10 on Tuesdays (as reported; confirm before you book).
| Vehicle | Foreign guest | Indian guest |
|---|---|---|
| Gypsy (open jeep, 6 guests) | ₹3,025 ≈ US$32 | ₹1,612 |
| Canter (open bus, ~20 guests) | ₹2,400 ≈ US$26 | ₹987 |
| Months | Morning safari | Afternoon safari |

| October | 6:30 – 10:00 AM | 2:30 – 6:00 PM |
| November – January | 7:00 – 10:30 AM | 2:00 – 5:30 PM |

Approximate — the Forest Department sets exact times each season. Full guide: Ranthambore safari booking, price & timings.
The park is divided into 10 safari zones. Each safari visits one zone, allotted by the Forest Department when permits are booked.
| Zone | Type | Key areas | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | Core | Near the main gate | Dry forest and grassland close to the entrance; popular in summer. |
| Zone 2 | Core | Lakes & fort side | Core forest towards the lakes and the fort; popular and sells out early. |
| Zone 3 | Core | Padam Talao, Rajbagh Talao | The famous lake zone with palace ruins — classic tiger-by-the-lake views. |
| Zone 4 | Core | Malik Talao, Lakarda | Lakes, grassland and valleys; known for regular sightings. |
| Zone 5 | Core | Kachida valley | Rocky valleys and open country; good for leopards, sloth bears and tigers. |
| Zone 6 | Buffer | Kundal | Open grassland on the park edge; often good for tigers that move out of the core. |
| Zone 7 | Buffer | Chidikho | Quieter forest with fewer vehicles. |
| Zone 8 | Buffer | Balas | Hilly terrain, dense forest; quieter drives. |
| Zone 9 | Buffer | Kuwalji | Away from the main gate, near the Chambal side; sloth bears and birds. |
| Zone 10 | Buffer | Aantri, Bhuri Pahadi | Remote buffer area; peaceful and less crowded. |
Our packages include 3–4 safaris, and we request different zones so you cover more of the tigers' territories.
Tigers are most active in the cool early hours — our plans put the most safaris in the mornings.
Local naturalists read alarm calls, pugmarks and tiger movements, and share the latest sighting news.
Popular zones sell out — we book on the official portal as soon as your dates are confirmed.
A 6-seat open jeep is quieter and more flexible than a 20-seat canter, with better photo angles.
March–June is hot but gives the most sightings near water; we advise you on the best dates for your trip.
Ranthambore lies where the Aravalli and Vindhya hills meet, in Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan. Once the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, it became one of India's first Project Tiger reserves in 1973 and a national park in 1980. Today it is famous for tigers that are often seen in daylight — around lakes, ancient ruins and banyan trees.
The landscape is dry deciduous forest with open grassland, rocky ridges and three large lakes — Padam Talao, Rajbagh Talao and Malik Talao. Above them rises the 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, part of the UNESCO "Hill Forts of Rajasthan" World Heritage Site.
| Gypsy (jeep) | Canter (open bus) | |
|---|---|---|
| Guests | 6 | ≈ 20 |
| Experience | Quieter, more flexible, better photos | Shared, busier, higher seat view |
| Fee (foreign guest) | ₹3,025 | ₹2,400 |
| Availability | Sells out first in peak season | Easier at short notice |

Excellent tour with lots of memories to take home. Great organisation and guide
Based on my experience Rosa Travel is a serious and honest tour provider with excellent customer service. They responded fast and very honest about all my enquiries and extra wishes before the trip and incorporated all. The car was very clean and in very good condition and the driver also very punctual, reliable and trustworthy. Mr Mohsin, my tour guide was excellent, with local knowledge that only someone who has been doing this tour for almost every day in the past 10 years can have. Needless to say that I did not even see a queue. He also had a great knowledge of the whole Indian history and its transformation into modern society…

Warm, insightful and friendly guide! Highly recommend!
Our guide Zameer was incredible! He shared so many interesting facts about the history, architecture, and city of Agra and the surrounding area. But even more important that his knowledge, was his welcoming and warm demeanor. Zameer made our group feel welcome and like friends; he was kind, shared jokes and stories, and made our entire experience a complete delight. I cannot recommend him more!

Insightful, efficient, and professional
This was one of if not the best tours I've been on in over 30 years of my life. Our guide Zameer was extremely knowledgeable and it was clear he had a passion for history. He shared stories, insight, and was able to answer almost all the questions the group had. If he didn't know, he didn't make things up like most tour guides. This was a 10/10 experience. Highly recommend a tour with Zameer.

Great tour of Delhi-Mathura Vrindavan-Agra-Fatehpur Sikiri-Delhi
Great Trip! I went 4D3N trip with my family in December 2022 to Mathura-Vrindavan-Agra-Fatehpur Sikiri-Delhi. The trip was excellently planned by Faisal Siddiqui and not at all tiring. The driver Mr Khemchand Sharma ji was outstanding he was on-time in the entire trip, professional, safe and caring. Every place we had guided tours and everyone is professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the places. The trip to Taj Mahal was one of the great unique experiences that we had. Mr Zameer Khan as our tour guide to Taj Mahal has enhanced the experience of Taj with his professionalism, and knowledge of Taj. I highly recommend Zameer's services…

Only one you want to show you Agra
Review of our guide Zamir. It felt like became our friend in such a short period of time. He was extremely knowledgeable, honest, kind with his time, took us everywhere we wanted to go. Other guides have been pushy, and can sometimes try to hustle tourists, Zamir rather shared our experience with us, and helped Shepard us through Agra and gave us the best areas for pictures, foods, and momentos for the trip. If I come back or have relatives going to the area, they are getting the high recommendation to ask for Zamir.

An activity-filled day
We certainly got more than we expected with this tour! The day started when we got picked up from outside our accommodation in South Delhi by our driver in a comfortable SUV at 6am and we got on the road to Agra. The SUV was stocked with bottled water and snacks. Because of the fog we couldn't see a lot but there wasn't much traffic either…

Epic tour to Taj Mahal
Very comfortable vehicle and safe driving. Drivers English wasn't always able to be understood although this didn't alter the overall experience. Stopped for breakfast at place where food was nice but place a little average. Tour guide who showed us around Taj Mahal and Agra Fort was awesome - great English, got us through queues quickly and took great photos. Didn't like going to marble shop and declined another selling opportunity. Yummy lunch at restaurant on way home.

If seeing a tiger is your main goal, choose the 3-day Ranthambore Tiger Safari Package with four jeep safaris in different zones. If you also want the Taj Mahal, the 4-day Taj Mahal & Ranthambore tour or the 7-day Golden Triangle with Ranthambore (four safaris) are the most popular.
No one can guarantee a sighting, but your chances rise sharply with more drives. We recommend at least three safaris, ideally four, spread over mornings and afternoons in different zones.
From 1 April 2026, the official Forest Department fee is about ₹3,025 per foreign guest for a gypsy safari and ₹2,400 for a canter (Indian guests: ₹1,612 / ₹987). Our packages add the hotel, car, naturalist and transfers — ask for a free quote.
Safari permits are sold only on the Rajasthan Forest Department's official FMDSS portal, in each guest's name with passport or ID details. As a licensed operator, we book the permits for you as part of your package and send you the confirmation.
A gypsy (open jeep, 6 guests) is quieter, quicker and better for photos, so we recommend it. A canter (open bus, about 20 guests) costs less and is easier to get at short notice.
October to June, when all zones are open. November to February is pleasant but cold on early drives; March to June is hot but the best for sightings, as tigers come to the lakes and waterholes.
Open: all zones running. Season 1 October 2026 – 30 June 2027. Core zones 1–5 close for the monsoon from 1 July.
Core zones 1–5, around the lakes and valleys, are the most popular for tigers, with zones 3 and 4 often mentioned. Sightings move with the tigers, though, so we request a mix of zones and use our naturalists' latest information.
Ranthambore is next to Sawai Madhopur town. By road it is about 5–6 hours from Delhi, 3.5–4 hours from Jaipur and 4–5 hours from Agra; by train it is about 5 hours from Delhi. Our packages include a private car, or we meet you at Sawai Madhopur station.
Foreign guests need their passport details at booking and must carry the same original passport to the park gate. Indian guests need a government photo ID such as Aadhaar.
Yes. Ranthambore lies between Agra and Jaipur, so it fits naturally into a Golden Triangle. Choose our 5-day or 7-day Golden Triangle with Ranthambore, or ask us to add nights to any tour.
Leopards, sloth bears, striped hyenas, sambar and spotted deer, nilgai, wild boar, mugger crocodiles and over 300 species of birds — plus langur monkeys around the fort and lakes.
Yes. The 10th-century fort inside the park is part of the UNESCO "Hill Forts of Rajasthan" site and has the much-visited Trinetra Ganesh temple. It is a lovely half-day between safaris.
In a hotel or jungle resort close to the park gates on Ranthambore Road. With the all-inclusive package we suggest options in your budget, from comfortable 3-star hotels to luxury jungle lodges.
Yes. Children of all ages can join (permits are needed for everyone). The tracks are bumpy, so guests with back problems should tell us — a gypsy with fewer people or a shorter plan can help.
Safari fees, season and zone information shown for November 2026, based on the latest Forest Department notifications. The Forest Department can change fees, timings and zone rules at short notice — your quote always shows the current fee. *Free cancellation applies to hotels and transport; safari permits follow the park's rules. US$ amounts are approximate (₹94 ≈ US$1).
