Nahargarh Fort was built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, on the edge of the Aravalli hills overlooking the city. With Amer and Jaigarh forts it formed Jaipur's ring of defence.

Inside, the Madhavendra Bhawan — built later by Sawai Madho Singh — has identical suites for the king's queens, linked by corridors, with faded frescoes. Today most visitors come for the sweeping views over the Pink City.
