Your own air-conditioned car and an approved local guide take you to the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, the exquisite "Baby Taj" and the riverside garden of Mehtab Bagh, at your own pace.

Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 16th and 17th centuries, and its monuments tell the story of four emperors — Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. With a guide who knows the history, the gates and the quietest times, you see more and queue less. Start at sunrise for the softest light at the Taj Mahal, or at 8 AM for a comfortable full day.

   Your driver picks you up from your Agra hotel, Agra Cantt / Agra Fort / Raja Ki Mandi railway station or Agra airport (Kheria) and meets your approved guide on the way.

   Taj Mahal 2–3 hours Included

   

   Walk through the great gateway to the gardens, the reflecting pool and the white-marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan for Mumtaz Mahal. Your guide explains the inlay work, the calligraphy and the optical tricks of the design, and shows you the best photo spots. (Closed on Fridays.)

   Agra Fort 1.5 hours Included

   

   The red-sandstone fort of Akbar, with the marble palaces of Shah Jahan — the Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas and the Musamman Burj, where Shah Jahan was kept by his son Aurangzeb and looked across the river at the Taj Mahal.

   Lunch at a clean, air-conditioned restaurant (included in the all-inclusive package) — try Agra's Mughlai dishes.

   Itimad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj) 45 minutes Included

   

   Built by Empress Nur Jahan for her father, this jewel-box tomb on the Yamuna was the first Mughal building covered fully in white marble with pietra dura inlay — a "draft" of the Taj Mahal.

   Akbar's Tomb, Sikandra 45 minutes Optional

   

   The tomb of Emperor Akbar in a vast garden with deer and monkeys, on the edge of the city. (Or extend the day to Fatehpur Sikri, about 40 km away.)

   Mehtab Bagh at sunset 45 minutes Included

   

   End the day in the Moonlight Garden across the river, with the classic sunset view of the Taj Mahal.

8. Drop in Agra Included

   

   Your driver drops you back at your Agra hotel, the railway station for your train, or Agra airport.

  Keep a valid ID or passport with you — it may be checked at the monuments.

• Not allowed at the Taj

  Food, tobacco, tripods, drones and large bags are not allowed inside. Your bags can stay in the car.

• What to wear

  Comfortable shoes and modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered) are best for monuments and temples.

• Weather

  Summers (April–June) are very hot. Carry a hat and sunscreen; we keep water in the car.
