Quick answer

Jaigarh Fort, on the hill above Amer Fort, is open every day from about 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It is managed privately by a trust of the former Jaipur royal family, so it is not part of the government composite ticket; tickets are sold at the gate and camera fees may apply. Its highlight is the Jaivana, one of the world's largest cannons on wheels. Plan 1.5 to 2 hours.

Jaigarh Fort ("Fort of Victory") was built in 1726 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II on the Cheel ka Teela hill to protect Amer Fort and its palace below. The two forts are linked by long fortified walls and passages.

Unlike Amer, Jaigarh was never captured, and it has stayed remarkably intact — with a cannon foundry, huge water tanks, palaces and some of the best views in Jaipur.

The Jaivana is a huge bronze-and-iron cannon cast at Jaigarh in 1720, often described as the largest cannon on wheels in the world. Legend says it was test-fired only once.

Is Jaigarh connected to Amer Fort?

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built it in 1726, though fortifications on the hill are older.
