Quick answer

The Taj Mahal is open at night on five nights a month — the full-moon night and two nights before and after — except Fridays and the month of Ramzan. Visitors enter in eight 30-minute slots of up to 50 people between 8:30 PM and 12:30 AM. Tickets cost ₹750 for foreigners, ₹510 for Indians and ₹500 for children (3–15), and are sold only at the ASI office, 22 The Mall, Agra, one day in advance (10 AM – 6 PM). The next expected full moon is on Tuesday, 24 November 2026.

Seeing the Taj Mahal under a full moon is one of the most special experiences in India — the white marble glows softly against the night sky. But night viewing is tightly controlled: only a few hundred people can go each night, from a viewing platform, and tickets can only be bought in person in Agra the day before.

Visitor guide & tips

Rules and tips for night viewing

  • Check the weather

  • Same ID as your ticket

Carry the original passport or ID you used to buy the ticket.

  • No video cameras

Video cameras are not allowed; still cameras and phones are. Tripods are not allowed.

  • Leave bags behind

Luggage must be left at the cloakroom counter (for a fee); carry as little as possible.

  • Be on time

Late arrivals can miss their slot — there is no re-entry or change of slot.

  • Stay overnight in Agra

Plan a night in Agra and see the Taj by day too — sunrise the next morning is wonderful.
